My goal with this work was to create something that served not only as a personal snapshot of my life but also as something that is as visually engaging for the audience as these moments where for me to experience.
I held nothing back and did what I wanted to. When I first set out to create this I had no clue what the end product was going to be. I just wanted it to embody the idea of the process of creating to be fun and expressive. It's a real part of me, it is me. I recorded all the videos used with my phone while out at concerts and performances.  Music and art have a lot of overlap and are both things I hold very dear to my sense of self. I use both as a tool for self expression and I can’t help but let this overflow into my work. This piece was intended to be a personal work but without any attempt to share that meaning with the audience. The viewer doesn't need to understand what the work means to me because nobody truly could. That’s the realness. This video is unapologetically self indulgent.
Additionally, I brought in scans of personal documents, handwritten letters, and notes that I have collected over the past several months. Each one is a real note. I find each and every one of these so personal and emotionally charged. They come from all sorts of places and function as a fragment of my lived experience. Some are written by friends, lovers, parents, medical workers, RAs.
Visually, I was initially inspired by a friend of mine who is really into slime and amateur music visualizers on youtube. The fast moving video and chaotic layered textures invoke a similar feeling to being present at the shows depicted. I want the viewer to feel as if they are in the sweaty, loud, bright rooms that venues often are. I want the viewer to become mesmerized in the same way I do. This communal experience is so vital to my self image and I used this work as a way of expressing my love for it.
